Two days ago, 10 people in a van that is marked with Shantou University’s logo were preparing themselves to work in Africa, a mysterious continent. Two teachers, Peter and John, and eight students – Yamaha, Helen, Lucy, Danny, Mark, Gloria, Candice and me were heading to Baiyun Airport in Guangzhou. We had different ways to get ready. We students were busy eating all day long, which really scared John. In our defense, we were just storing energy to work in Africa. Also, their talking without a stop seemed amazed to us.

After 6 hour’s ride, we arrived in the airport and succeeded to meet with our companion, Jane, who was a graduate student having the internship in Hong Kong before we converge. We took the Kenya airways to get to the first destination—Uganda.

this woman attracted my lens when we were waiting for the plane to Entebbe. African women gave me a impression of they are the mixture of loyalty and informal.

Peter Arnett, the former reporter from CNN, is now our leading teacher of our Africa group. During the boring time on the narrow economy class, we sat there quietly watching films without any subtitle speaking English or Swahili, or couldn’t help falling asleep though we know for sure that we must get hurt in our necks and backs after the unsounded sleep, or we would stand up to excise our muscles.

Lovely Peter is dancing to excise his waist cheerfully at Nairobi airport.

“I cannot feel my legs!” Masa complained when the plane was paused in Dubai, “I want to get off the aircraft to see what the famously fantastic hotel looks like!” “You little naughty,” Gloria comforted me tenderly, “let’s do some gym or walk around the seats to get excised.” Then she began to excise her waist in strangely funny action on her seat. I laughed and saw our boss Peter was even funnier than her. Peter was sleeping with his eyes covered by a piece of paper from the plane sickness paper bag and his cool sunglasses.

There was no scenery outside the plane, for the reason that we had board the plane at 7 pm in Guangzhou and we flied towards the west. Theoretically, we were flying towards the earlier time and we might have a brighter future. Actually, however, traveling by air is still time-consuming. Our plane was not fast enough to catch the sun. As a consequence, we had our trip in endless darkness all the way to Nairobi, the capital of Kenya. What is worse, the food on the plane made us sick after the freshness of eating other country’s food disappeared. We are amazed by the fact that all the foreign passengers around us were able to finish up the meal the air company supplied every two hours on average. How can they eat that much? We were all so full that we almost want to throw out our stomach! Helplessly staring at the breads and salad, we fell strongly that all we want is Chinese rice and soup, so we suddenly recognized how much we love our country. Haha, I’m kidding. It’s not that serious. We just need some time to get used to eating the foreign food all day. Oh, by the way, Peter can eat really damn fast! It’s incredible!

Despite the fact that the time on the plane is too long, the food is not that satisfied and my little pretty notebook was disappeared dramatically on the plane before we got the capital of Kenya-- Nairobi, we had a pleasant trip.

Finally, we got to Nairobi where we could take our next fly to Kampala. We spent all our one hour on the plane enjoying the breathtaking scenery outside the window, although the window is too dirty which affected my quality of photos.

lovely clouds.

the biggest freshwater lake in the world--Lake Vactoria.

 amazingcontinent~

I love Africa, I love this amazing continent! The sun is shining brightly and the clouds are white and seemed very cheerful flowing in the clearly crystal-like blue heaven. Jungles in deep green and roads in fresh red made an artwork when seeing from the plane.

At 10, May 9th we finally walked on the ground of Uganda.

excited Yamaha.

Officials in the Visa department were friendly and hospitable. However, a bad news came by. Gloria’s luggage was missing and no one knows how it went wrong.God bless her. Dear Gloria, don’t worry too much, you’ll get your stuff back and we will always help you! I love you; you are such a sweet girl.

A van outside the Entebbe airport picked us up and drives us to the Speke hotel which we had already had reservation in. We had a quick scan of the living style here on the way, and that all made us be desire to do more research in order to know more about this beautiful and also thirsty country, Uganda.

excited Mark

Here are some snap shots I took on the van. Today’s a relaxing day Peter asked us to adjust ourselves to the new environment and to be prepared to the work.
